Structural, Architectural, Services Engineering Planning, Interior Design, work Supervision, Project and Construction Management, Coordination of Security – Listed building according to L. D. n. 42 dated 22.01.2004 (former Law 1089/39)

Project assigned to Company International Opera s.r.l. (Promoting Partners Ing. Lorenzo Chiarugi, Arch. Letizia Chiarugi, Ing. Bernardo Falzone)

Building attributed to Baccio d’Agnolo, committed by the rich silk importer Giovanni Bartolini, this building was finished in the year 1500  and it was built on a place previously occupied by the “Locanda Porta Rossa” already known in the 1300s,  incorporating the thirteenth-century Monalda Tower inside its walls.

It sits in the heart of the Silk Craft District symbolized by  the Porta Rossa (Red Door), but  the owner’s  motto  seems  to refer to spices – another lucrative importing trade with East he was involved in -  with 3 poppies embossed on the big stone consoles of  the  “sportici”(characteristic projections) of the façade, while the inscription in Italian “per non dormire” ( for not sleeping)   underlines his industry.

Torrigiani family purchased the Palace in 1559, when Bartolini moved into his second contiguous palace, and used it as their own residence until the first half of the 19th century,  then  they rented it out  as hotel.

The major renovation inside, the wooden decorations and the windows, influenced by the “fin de siècle” taste and the “liberty” style, were made in order to better adapt the building to hotel use.
